Mobile Game Options for Guild Wars 2
Rick Ellis, a Tech Director at ArenaNet, has lifted the lid on some of the mobile game options that will be available in Guild Wars 2 in what he's calling the "Extended Experience".Not satisfied with delivering a fun, challenging, dynamic, content-rich MMORPG, the Guild Wars 2 development team at ArenaNet are expanding their ambitions (and the player's gaming options) by developing extensions for smart phones which will allow players to be involved in GW2 even when they're not actually at their computers and playing the game!
Rick explains...Rick says "We've constructed a high-speed connection to the Guild Wars 2 server and database architecture, allowing us to not only retrieve information from the game but also push data into the game in real time." |
What this means is that if you own an iPhone, iPod, iPad or Android smart phones you'll be able to chat instantly with anyone on your Guild Wars 2 friends list, watch them move around in the game and see dynamic events as they become active, even while you're away from your computer! You'll be able to watch them in battle, share ideas and ultimately share in their victory. For those who don't have a smart phone, similar functionality will be provided for web users.
"We're committed to making Guild Wars 2 more accessible and allowing our players to experience our game world anywhere, at any time" continues Rick. |
Another great feature lets out-of-game friends help in-game friends locate items or places by tapping a location on the world map, causing their in-game friends to see a radar ping appear on their mini-map and world map.Future Guild Wars 2 features for the mobile world map will include the ability to select a player and open up the "Hero Viewer", which shows information about that character including their stats, equipment and achievements. The user will also be able to select a piece of equipment and retrieve information about where that item came from such as a location, an event, a certain boss, or even a portion of that player's personal story. Also planned is a system for accessing Wiki content to reduce the need to jump out of the game to access web sites for information.I think I'll buy myself some shares in Apple once Guild Wars 2 is released
